Consulting Hero

Consulting

I take on a limited number of consulting engagements alongside my full-time work. With 25+ years of experience building for the web, I can help you plan, build, rescue, or scale your next project — and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders along the way.

Below are a few recent projects and the kinds of partnerships I’m looking for.

Recent Projects

Silica-Safe planning tool for contractors

I built silica-safe.org from the ground up: a WordPress site that helps contractors plan for working safely with silica-producing materials — grinding cement, cutting block, and similar tasks. Its centerpiece is a fully custom planning tool that walks users through a multi-step form and generates a detailed safety plan annotated to their specific circumstances, with links to relevant guidance from official government safety organizations. The site supports user registration and accounts, and finished plans can be saved, exported to PDF, or emailed.

Technology: WordPress, custom plugin development, PHP, JavaScript, MySQL

Legislative scorecard for AFSCME

For AFSCME — one of the nation’s largest public-service unions — I built a legislative scorecard that tracks the voting record of every member of the U.S. House and Senate and grades each legislator on their alignment with the union’s priorities. The project centered on front-end data manipulation and UX work, backed by a data feed of legislator bio information, and uses IP-based geolocation so visitors land on their own state’s delegation by default. I’m currently rebuilding the scorecard for the 2026 election cycle as an independent consultant.

Technology: JavaScript, HTML/CSS, REST APIs, IP geolocation

Possible Partnerships

Ideal projects will share one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Small development and design teams; I can also recommend trusted partners for additional resources
  • Ongoing projects are preferable, but short-term, discrete projects (1–3 months) are also welcome
  • WordPress builds, migrations, or rescues, as well as custom plugin development
  • Ruby on Rails or React application development
  • AWS infrastructure setup, review, or cost optimization
  • REST API integrations and workflow automation
  • AI/LLM process integrations
  • Database migrations
